Statements of Faith

Statements of faith are our beliefs as a church. Our theology is not innovative. If you are familiar with historical Christian doctrine, you'll find these statements are rooted in the Bible. There are many doctrinal issues on which people hold divergent views. Our core beliefs are centered in Christ and His message as supported by Scripture. More obscure doctrine or controversial issues about which the Bible is silent are left to individuals to sort out on their own. On these issues, The River takes no official position. Following are the Core Beliefs supported by The River.

Core Beliefs

We believe the Bible to be the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles and His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal return to power and glory at some point in the future.

We believe that God brings sinners into relationship with Him
through faith, confession, repentance and baptism.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables the Christ-follower to live a godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost - those saved to eternal life with God, and those lost to eternal separation from God.

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, and that God is calling all people to function in His new community, the Church.
